HuffPost India, an english news portal, shuts its operations abruptly on Tuesday. The organization announced that 24th November will be the last working day. According to the National Herald, the reason of the shut down is a deal between the two big media firms, Buzzfeed and HuffPost. But on the other side many senior journalists blamed the Indian Government’s FDI policy for the sudden shut down of the news portal.

The entertainment editor of the HuffPost tweeted his feelings about the time he spent there. He also indicated that the content of the website will be migrated to the global site Huffpost.com

Earlier the Information and Broadcasting Ministry had asked all the news portals to only adapt 26% Foreign Direct Investment in digital media and news services. The order had demanded compliance from news portals within a month.

In the previous months the Modi Government brought OTT platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hotstar and digital news platforms under the I&B ministry, giving itself the powers to regulate policies and rules for digital platforms.
