The Indian team, under the leadership of dynamic opener Rohit Sharma, maintains their triumphant streak in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. They have succeeded in all their five matches to date. Hence, are sitting atop the points table with ten points. Team India is next set to confront the reigning champions, England, on Sunday, October 29th.
Meanwhile, an update regarding the injury of star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has surfaced.
Update on injury
According to a report by The Indian Express, the medical team will wait for a few more days for his recovery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. In such a situation, Pandya may miss not only England but also the match against Sri Lanka. The management is hopeful that the star all-rounder will be fully fit for the last two league matches of the World Cup against South Africa on November 5th and the Netherlands on November 12th.
Hardik got injured
Hardik Pandya, the star all-rounder for Team India, suffered a left ankle twist while attempting to intercept a ball in a World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh, leading him to leave the field immediately. This event prompted widespread worry among fans over the severity of his injury. As part of his examination during the game, Pandya underwent scans and was subsequently advised to rest. Consequently, his noticeable absence was felt in the match against New Zealand in Dharamshala.
Big challenge for Captain Rohit Sharma
With All-rounder Hardik Pandya unavailable, Skipper Rohit Sharma and the team management face challenges in determining the playing 11. Fast bowler Shami had a successful game against New Zealand, claiming five wickets. He has now compelled the team management to make him part of the playing 11 in future matches. Furthermore, Shardul's consistent performance, offering breakthroughs during critical stages of games, cannot be overlooked. However, the intrigue lies in whether India will opt for Shardul, a capable batter when needed, or the fast-paced trio of Bumrah, Shami and Siraj.
Team India are the table toppers
Despite the missed presence of Hardik in the recent match against New Zealand, India triumphed thanks to Shami's superb bowling and Virat Kohli's magnificent batting during the run chase. With five consecutive victories under their belt in the tournament, Team India proudly sits atop the points table. On the other hand, defending champions England are struggling, with a disappointing track record of just one win out of four matches.
