Why is Danish Kaneria trending?

The 13th edition of the ODI World Cup is currently underway in India.  In the meantime, this cricketing event has become a hotbed of debate and controversy which has drawn the attention and opinions of several former cricket legends and other significant personalities. Recently, former Pakistani cricket player Danish Kaneria and prominent Indian journalist Arfa Khanum Sherwani engaged in a heated debate on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) leading to the trend of Danish Kaneria. 

The controversy started from the Australia vs Pakistan league match. A video has emerged on social media from the match that depicts a law enforcement officer preventing Pakistani fans from chanting ' Pakistan Zindabad'. Indian journalist Arfa Khanum Sherwani took the help of twitter and marked his disappointment with the officer's behaviour. She said, “Deplorable behaviour of many cricket fans during World Cup matches, makes me feel embarrassed & ashamed as an Indian. This petty, insecure & majoritarian approach towards sports which was meant to bring people together, is symbolic of India Modi-RSS have created in last one decade.”  

Later, the former right-arm leg spinner, Danish Kaneria retaliated by saying that if you are feeling ashamed to be an Indian just come to my country and you will be more ashamed. He wrote, “Come to my country Pakistan if you are feeling ashamed to be an Indian. India doesn’t need people like you. I am sure many people in India will be happy to sponsor this trip.” 

These days Kaneria is too much active on X and giving befitting replies to hate spreaders against World Cup host country India and this is the result for the same. Previously, he replied to Pakistani journalists who were offended with Jai Shree Chant during Ind Vs Pak match in Ahmedabad saying that as an only hindu in the team, he has suffered a lot while playing for the Pakistan Cricket Team.

Who is Danish Kaneria?

Danish Kaneria is a former Pakistan right-arm leg spinner. He was the second Hindu after his cousin, Anil Dalpat who played for Pakistan in international cricket. Talking about his appearance for the Pakistan cricket team, he has played 61 Tests and taken 261 wickets with an economy of 3.08. Apart from that he has made appearances in 18 ODIS and took 15 wickets with an economy of 4.8

Kaneria was accused of fixing in 2009 Essex county that led to a ban in 2012 for further playing cricket. In 2018, Pakistan's banned leg spinner himself confessed to being involved in fixing. He said that he had made contact with a bookie without informing the authorities, for which he suffered the consequences.
