The Adani Group’s renewable energy subsidiary, Adani Green Energy (AGEL), has started generating 551 MW of solar power from its Khavda plant in Gujarat. The power is being fed to the national grid.
The Khavda plant is part of AGEL’s ambitious project to build the world’s largest renewable energy park with a capacity of 30 GW. The park will produce enough clean energy to light up 16.1 million households every year.
AGEL expects to complete the project in the next five years, according to a press release.
Gautam Adani, chairman of Adani Group, said "Adani Green Energy is creating one of the world's most extensive renewable energy ecosystems for solar and wind."
He added "that "through bold and innovative projects like the Khavda RE plant, AGEL is setting higher global benchmarks and rewriting the world’s planning and execution standards for giga-scale renewable energy projects".
He confirmed that this milestone underscores the Adani Group’s commitment and leading role in driving India’s equitable clean energy transition journey towards its bold targets of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and carbon neutrality."
"One of the best wind and solar resources in the country endows the Khavda region, making it ideal for giga-scale RE development," it added.
In January 2024, AGEL concluded the financing successfully for the $750 million Holdco notes due on September 9, 2024. In December 2023, AGEL formed four hierarchical subsidiary companies, namely Adani Renewable Energy Sixty, Adani Renewable Energy Sixty Two, Adani Renewable Energy Sixty Three, and Adani Renewable Energy Sixty Four.
Adani Green Energy has increased its total renewable generation capacity to 9.03GW with the new solar plants operational, aligning with the company's goal of 45GW of capacity by 2030.
