Solar power is the energy that comes from the sun. It is clean and renewable. Solar power does not cause pollution or climate change. It can also help India to meet its energy needs and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. India has a lot of potential for solar power. It has many sunny days and a large land area. It also has a growing electricity demand. India wants to use more solar power to meet its challenges.
The minister of new and renewable energy and power, R.K. Singh, shared some information about India's solar power progress. He answered some questions in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the parliament.
He said that India's solar power capacity has increased a lot in the last 10 years. In 2013-14, India had only 2,822 MW of solar power. By 2023-24, India had 73,319 MW of solar power. This means that India added more than 70,000 MW of solar power in 10 years.
He also said that India has approved 58 solar parks in 13 states. These are large areas where many solar panels are installed. These solar parks have a total capacity of 40,000 MW. Out of these, 20 solar parks have already started working. They have a capacity of 10,576 MW.

11 | 2023-24 (upto Dec 2023) | 6538 | 73319 |
He also said that one solar park of 500 MW in Kalaburagi was cancelled. The state government of Karnataka asked for this cancellation.
India has a target of reaching 100,000 MW of solar power by 2022. This is part of India's commitment to fight climate change and use more renewable energy. India is also a leader of the International Solar Alliance, a group of countries that want to promote solar power.
India is working hard to achieve its solar power goals. It is using different technologies and methods to harness the sun's energy. India is also making policies and rules to support solar power. It is also helping people and businesses to use solar power for their needs.
