India is currently facing a severe heatwave, with temperatures soaring above normal levels across various regions, posing significant challenges to agriculture, public health, and regional ecosystems.

Regions such as Vidarbha, Odisha, Rayalaseema, and parts of Central Maharashtra have witnessed a notable increase in maximum temperatures, with isolated areas of Chhattisgarh, North Interior Karnataka, and Interior Tamil Nadu experiencing temperatures between 40 to 42 degrees Celsius, exceeding the norm by two to three degrees.

The Meteorological Department has issued warnings for parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh, predicting maximum temperatures to surpass 95 percent from April 3 onwards. Northern, eastern, and central India, including Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, are expected to face elevated temperatures until April 4.

Heatwave conditions are intensifying, with isolated parts of North Interior Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and Ganga coastal areas in East Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal likely to experience severe effects. Hot nights are also forecasted in parts of Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Odisha from April 2 to 6.

Furthermore, hot and humid weather is expected to continue in Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Odisha, increasing discomfort and health risks for residents.

Meteorological phenomena such as Western Disturbances are contributing to these extreme weather conditions. A persistent Western Disturbance has been observed, with another set to activate from April 5, affecting the western Himalayan regions. This will result in light to moderate rain and snowfall in the Western Himalayas and similar precipitation in the plains of northwest India.

Additionally, Northeast India is experiencing cyclonic circulations over Northeast Assam and North Bangladesh, with heavy moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal affecting weather patterns in the northeastern states.

In light of these meteorological activities, the Meteorological Department has issued forecasts for light to moderate rain over parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next seven days, with thunderstorm occurrences expected in some areas during April 2 and 3. Additionally, the department has predicted rain, lightning, and thunderstorms for northeastern states with expected rainfall ranging from 15.6 mm to 64.4 mm in various regions.

Looking specifically at Arunachal Pradesh, the forecast suggests the likelihood of light to moderate rain, snowfall, lightning, and stormy winds during April 2 to 6. Similar weather patterns are anticipated in other northeastern states like Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, with expected rainfall ranging from 15.6 mm to 64.4 mm across these regions.
