DTC Bus Driver in Delhi | Ground Report | New Delhi: Kailash Gahlot, Transport Minister has relaxed the height and experience for the recruitment of women driver for DTC and cluster buses in the budget 2022-23.
Eligibility for DTC Women Driver
To encourage women to take up driving jobs, Transport Department release Statement, the maximum height has been reduced from 159cm to 153 cm while the experience criteria after insurance of Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) license has been lowered to one month from three years in the past for female applicants applying for bus driver post.
Relaxing the norms for the female drivers for its 6,900 buses fleet in the city. Under the new scheme, women do not have any prior experience to apply for the post. Venkadarath Saritha, became the first woman to be enrolled as a DTC bus driver in April 2015.
“We have not only relaxed the eligibility criteria, but we will also ensure that women are provided free training in our Burari driving training institute. We have proposed the same in our upcoming budget,” Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said.
First the Women has to pass the driving and the fitness test then, the department will provide a one-month course to women at Burari testing center, in a tie-up with Ashok Leyland, which provides the course.
Though the fee for this course is Rs 10,000 per month, the government has decided to make it free for women. Further, the department will also provide a small stipend to women during the training period yet it’s not decided but it’ll approx 8,000 to 10,000. It will be half-day training.
There are 13 women who have so far passed the driving test and 12 of them are ready to take the course. “We have women taxi drivers but there is a barrier when it comes to driving buses and the department is now trying to remove that. We now have low-floor buses with seat adjustment facilities. Upcoming buses are also designed and manufactured in a way that women drivers can handle them easily,” said Ashish Kundra, special secretary and transport commissioner.

- Download the application form on A4 size thick paper/ photocopy paper.
- Fill up the details in the application form.
- Attach photograph, signature, or other required documents.
- Pay the application fee if applicable.

Myth
“Some people think that women cannot handle vehicles and 90% of accidents will increase if they become drivers. This myth should be cleared. Twelve drivers currently fit for the job have cleared the test. Women are flying fighter planes, going to space, handling trains, Metros etc.
