Dharma Sansad; An event was organized at Shaniwar Wada, Pune under the banner of Elgaar Parishad to commemorate the two hundredth anniversary of the Battle of Koregaon Bhima on December 31, 2017. It was organized by a coalition of 260 non-profit organizations at Shaniwar Wada Fort, Pune.
In the months following the incident, several people present at the event were arrested under laws such as the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). It included Surendra Gadling, Rona Wilson, Mahesh Raut, Sudhir Dhawale, Shoma Sen, and Stan Swamy. The Pune Police alleged that the event was sponsored by Maoists.
But at the same, a three-day hate speech program was organized by Hindutva leader Yeti Narasimhanand in the pilgrimage town of Haridwar in Uttarakhand, where the calls to kill minorities and attack their religious spaces were made.
In the Elgar Parishad case, the Police booked eight people under the UAPA act, The event was attended by several high-profile personalities including Prakash Ambedkar, Jignesh Mewani, and Umar Khalid. But No action has been taken against the hate speech against Muslims in a three-day hate speech program was organized by Hindutva leader Yeti Narasimhanand.
Elgar Parishad event
Thousands of Dalits gathered to commemorate the battle that took place at Bhima Koregaon on 1 January 2018, when violence broke out in which one person was killed and several others were injured.
In the months following the incident, people including Mahesh Raut, Sudhir Dhawale, Shoma Sen, Surendra Gadling, Rona Wilson, and Stan Swamy were prosecuted under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani has been accused of inciting religious enmity.
According to the Pune Police, the gathering was allegedly organized and financed by members of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) responsible for the atrocities at Bhima Koregaon.
Dharma Sansad event
Uttarakhand Police said it will probe alleged speeches made against religious minorities by members of right-wing organizations at the three-day Dharma Sansad held in Haridwar.
Another participant of the Dharma Sansad event warned the Haridwar administration that they would vandalize hotels and commercial establishments where Christmas celebrations are held. Another speaker can be heard targeting religious minorities.
Swami Prabodhanand Giri, president of the Hindu Raksha Sena, a right-wing organisation based out of Uttarakhand said “Like Myanmar, our police, our politicians, our Army and every Hindu must pick up weapons and conduct this “Safaayi Abhiyan”. There is no other option left”.
Annapurna Maa, Mahamandleshwar of Niranjini Akhada, and General Secretary of Hindu Mahasabha said: “If you want to eliminate them, kill them… we need 100 soldiers who can kill 20 million to win this".
Sagar Sindhuraj Maharaj said: “I keep repeating again and again that keep 5000 rupee mobile but buy a 1 lakh rupee weapon. You should at least have sticks and swords.”
Sindhu Sagar Swami: “advises people to buy lands owned by Muslims & make village free of Muslims. He boasts of him trapping at least 10 Muslims in FAKE SC/ST act cases & asks more people to do the same. Says, Yati’s followers are giving arms training to youth.”
