Party workers, office-bearers, and ticket aspirants have erupted in protests in response to the announcement of BJP candidates for two reserved assembly seats (for scheduled caste) in Ujjain district. They are primarily directing their anger at the Ghattiya constituency candidate, Satish Malviya, with protesters burning his effigy and expressing their certainty of his defeat.
Following BJP's release of candidates for 39 seats in the state, demonstrations are gaining momentum, with demands for a change in the declared candidates. The discontent stems from the selection of former MLA Satish Malviya for the Ghattiya assembly seat and former MLA Tarachand Goyal for the Tarana seat in Ujjain district.
Protests against BJP's candidate choice
Malviya has been given a second chance, a decision met with strong opposition from local workers and other candidates in the Ghattiya area.
District Working Committee member Karan Parmar, brother of the former MLA, said that the ticket given by BJP to Satish Malviya is wrong. He stated that the entire area is troubled by the hooliganism of Malviya and his family. He urged the CM to reconsider this ticket, stating that Satish Malviya is facing maximum opposition among the 39 tickets.
BJP District Minister Shankar Ahirwar also expressed his opposition to the ticket of Satish Malviya. He stated that he has been in the organization for 32 years and has requested BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya to change the candidate. He added that 60 percent of people in the area oppose Satish Malviya and vowed to continue to protest within decorum until the B form is submitted.
Effigies burnt at two places in Ghattiya assembly constituency on Friday night. The video of the burnt effigies went viral on social media platforms. Karan Parmar, brother of former MLA Narayan Parmar and member of the BJP district working committee, stated that the party's decision to give ticket to Malviya is completely wrong.
Malviya and his family's hooliganism is causing trouble in the entire region. Unhel's traders and workers are upset. He added that the CM should reconsider his ticket.
Who is Satish Malviya
Satish Malviya is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a former MLA from the Ghattiya assembly constituency in Madhya Pradesh. He has been involved in the supply of sanitary materials.
However, his political career has been marked by controversy. He has faced criminal charges related to voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from his duty, assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty, and criminal intimidation. In one case, he was awarded one-year rigorous imprisonment for misbehaving with a constable and preventing him from discharging his duties.
Despite these controversies, the BJP gave him a second chance to contest from the Ghattiya assembly constituency. This decision has led to protests among party workers and other ticket aspirants, who have expressed their dissatisfaction by burning his effigy. They believe that his candidature could lead to the party’s defeat in the constituency.
