Ground Report | New Delhi: Army Helicopter Crash; An Army helicopter with four people, including Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat, crashed in Tamil Nadu's Coonoor on Wednesday.

“An IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter, with CDS Gen Bipin Rawat on board, met with an accident today near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu," a Twitter post by the Indian Air Force said.

Army helicopter has crashed in Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu. The injured have been admitted to hospital. Two people are seriously injured. It is seen in the pictures that the helicopter caught fire.

The helicopter, which took off from Sulur Air Force Station, was on its way to the Defense Services Staff College, Wellington. It crashed in Katy Park at 12.30 pm.

All three have sustained serious injuries and have been taken to Wellington Cantonment in the district. (Army Helicopter Crash) Army and police officials have reached the spot and rescue work is on.

According to the NewsMinute report, four people have died in the accident and their bodies have been recovered. Three others have been seriously injured. ANI reports that CDS Bipin Rawat, his staff and some family members were in the Mi-series helicopter that crashed between Coimbatore and Sulur in Tamil Nadu.

Images on local TV channels showed debris in the hills and rescue teams at work battling thick smoke and fire.

Indian Air Force's official statement on the accident, An IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter, with CDS Gen Bipin Rawat on board, met with an accident today near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. An Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident.
