​Koo vs Twitter: All you need to know about the new desi Twitter

Amid the ongoing deadlock between Twitter and the central government over the closure of accounts, Indian government has now replace foreign social media apps. In such a situation, Koo App has now come to India as an alternative to Twitter.

On the other hand, there is also a strong discussion of promoting indigenous platforms as an alternative to Twitter in India. This is considered as India's answer to Twitter. In response to Twitter, the indigenous blogging platform (Koo App) is ready. The Indian micro-blogging platform Koo was chosen by the IT ministry after a competition.

According to Twitter, it has taken some action in line with the orders issued by the Indian government recently, but it will not block Twitter accounts associated with media institutions, journalists, activists and leaders.

Twitter India said in one of its blogposts that doing so would violate their fundamental right to freedom of expression under Indian law. Twitter also said that it is exploring options under Indian law for both Twitter and affected Twitter accounts. If Twitter does not agree then what action the Indian government takes against it remains to be seen.

The government of the app Koo called "native Twitter" has been used to reply to the blog posts of Twitter. Koo is a microblogging start up about 10 months old and it gives all people the freedom to express their views or opinions in their own language.

The Ministry of Information Technology said in a statement that it was unusual for a blog post to come before Twitter's IT secretary was about to join the company's management. The government says that it will soon share its response.

The number of Koo users has increased, the app has already been installed by one million users. It received a 4.7 rating on the Google Play Store.

Responding to questions in the Rajya Sabha, the Union Minister said, "Whether it is Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn or WhatsApp, action will be taken if these platforms are misused." 

He further said, 'You work in India. You have millions of followers here. We respect it. You earn money here, but you have to be bound by Indian law and constitution.

"Koo is a made-in-India app that has become a toast for success today and we should be proud of it. It is a matter of pride for me that Indians are heading so many multi-technology companies. Let us salute the extraordinary courage of our start-ups," Prasad said during the Question Hour.

What is a Koo app?

Koo is an Indian-made micro-blogging platform that was launched 10 months ago as part of India's self-reliant India Communication Innovation Challenge. The company describes it as "the voice of India in Indian languages".

It looks and works like Twitter and gives you a platform to express your views. You can share your thoughts, videos and follow other users. You can post or comment on them.

The app is available in English and some Indian languages ​​including Kannada, Tamil, Hindi, Marathi and Telugu. You will find many prominent personalities like Sadhguru, Piyush Goyal, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath on Koo

The app won the Self-reliant App Innovation Challenge organized by the Government of India in August last year. PM Narendra Modi also encouraged Indians to use Koo app in Mann Ki Baat.
