Why Suresh Raina left unsold this time in IPL auctions?

Ground Report | New Delhi: Suresh Raina unsold IPL; The auction for the 15th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been completed. With this, Suresh Raina, who is ranked fourth among the most run-scorers during the last 14 years of IPL, has bid farewell to this prestigious cricket tournament. He was not bought by any team in the auction which lasted for two days.

Suresh Raina will not be sold in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction as Mr. IPL was not part of the list of player teams submitted for the accelerated final round on Day 2 of the bidding process in Bengaluru on Sunday.

Suresh Raina will not be sold at an IPL auction for the first time in tournament history. The former Chennai Super Kings batsman will miss an IPL season for the second time in the tournament's history after missing IPL 2022 in the United Arab Emirates due to personal reasons.

Known as 'Mr. IPL', Raina returned to the CSK team in 2021 but had a poor season during which he scored only 160 runs at an average of 17.77. And now that age isn't on his side, it could spell the end of the road for Raina in the cash-rich league.

Suresh Raina was the center of attention in his debut season when he scored 421 runs in IPL 2008. He came back with another good hit in the next season, breaking 434 runs. Until the 2014 season, Raina always crossed the 400-run mark while representing CSK.

When Chennai Super Kings returned to the IPL after a two-year suspension in 2016 and 2017, the team picked Suresh Raina back into the squad. Raina opted out of the 2020 season due to personal reasons. He returned in IPL 2021, however, he managed an average performance with 160 runs in 12 games. Before the IPL 2022 mega auction, CSK released Raina from the team.

In a recent interaction with The Indian Express on Idea Exchange, the Raina made interesting observations about the current setup and also pointed out the reason behind the team's poor performance in the previous edition of World T20st, which was played in the United Arab Emirates. States and Oman last year.

“I think this is why we won the 2007 World T20, the 2011 World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy. When I started in Ranji, I remember our coach Gyanu bhai (Gyanendra Pandey) would always tell us, ‘you should bowl.’ It gives a captain the ability to get in eight-ten overs if he has a sixth or seventh bowling option, when he is playing only five bowlers. That is good planning. So you see Viru paa (Sehwag), Yuvraj Singh, Yusuf Pathan and me, including in the 2011 World Cup, all would bowl,” .

In the South Africa series, recently, Aiden Markram was bowling six-eight overs upfront, and the main bowlers were coming in later. This is a big factor for the Indian team. Suryakumar Yadav can bowl as well. Even Rohit would bowl before his injury. So someone will have to step in, and bowl at least six-eight overs regularly in nets,” he further stated.

Many Raina and CSK fans expressed their displeasure on Twitter after the veteran cricketer failed to sell out. Some criticized the Chennai franchise for not recognizing his contribution to the team. Here are some reactions from Twitterati:
