RSS-affiliated student organization Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organized a protest at Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal on Monday 27 February over the suicide of a medical postgraduate student allegedly due to bullying by a senior named MA saif. Following the death, Justice for Preethi is going viral on social media.
The woman, identified as Preethi Dharavath, was a first-year postgraduate student in the Department of Anesthesiology at Kakatiya Medical College. She allegedly died by suicide after being harassed by her senior at the same university, Mohammad Abdul Saif Ali (27).
Matwada Police searched Saif under Section 306 (Incitement to Suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the relevant sections of the Prohibition of Ragging Act and the Scheduled Castes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
What’s the whole matter?
Preethi, a student at Kakatiya Medical College (KMC), turned to the extreme step after being harassed by her second-year postgraduate student, Md Saif.
Preethi Dharavath is a native of Telangana and works in the A.S.I. Railway Protection Force. and lives in Hyderabad with his family. She belongs to the tribal class and has three daughters. The youngest daughter, Preethi, is a student at MPBS.
After completing it, she joined Kakatiya Medical College for higher studies in Anesthesiology last year. A few days ago, Mohammad Ali Saif, a senior, has been harassing Preethi.
At this stage, while the practical classes were taking place, an Assistant Professor, an S.R. and a Senior P.G. were in the hospital’s emergency operating room every day from 4 pm to 9 am. In this class, Saif and Preethy were on the same board.
Taking advantage of this opportunity, Mohammad Ali Saif has been constantly harassing Preethi at the university and hospital. Preethi has told her father about this. She went to the university to report this to the principal. But Preeti stopped him, saying that she could complain if she repeated it.
Saif was arrested
Saif was arrested by the Mattewada police on Friday. He was booked under the SC/ST (Atrocity Prevention) Act.
Saif has reportedly been harassing Preethi since December 2022, a month after she joined PG Anesthesia. According to Warangal Police Commissioner AV Ranganath, Saif was transferred to Khammam Jail after being brought before the Third First Class Court Magistrate in Warangal.
Preethi’s father, Narender, had said that her daughter was mistreated by her elders. He demanded a proper investigation into the cause of her suicide.
Meanwhile, the state government has announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh. Health Minister T Harish Rao expressed his condolences on Preethi’s death.
In a statement issued on Sunday night, he said: “We had hoped that Preethi would come back healthy but she went into the world with no return. The state government supports her family.”
Family and friends of Dr. Preethi organized a protest at NIMS Hospital demanding justice for her. There was a heavy police deployment at the hospital as family members refused to take Preethi’s body away. Sources confirm that security has also been tightened at KMC Warangal.
