Rajasthan Royals batsman Riyan Parag faced criticism from fans for his poor performance with the bat. He only managed to score five runs during the 23rd match of the tournament, which was held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

In the 23rd match of IPL 2023, Gujarat Titans batted first after losing the toss and scored a total of 177/7. David Miller was the top scorer for them with 46 runs, but none of their batsmen managed to reach a half century.

In response, Rajasthan Royals faced a difficult time as they lost three wickets and hit a score of 47 in 8.3 overs. Riyan Parag came on to bat at this point, hoping to reverse his poor form, but failed to make an impact.

He scored just five runs in seven balls before being dismissed by Rashid Khan in the eleventh, making RR's situation even worse.

Who is cricketer Riyan Parag?

Riyan Parag was born on November 10, 2001 in Guwahati, Assam. He comes from a family with a strong sports background. His father was a former Assam Ranji cricketer and his mother was a national record holder for swimming. Parag started playing cricket at a very young age and by the time he was 12 years old, he was already a part of the Assam Under-16 cricket team.

Interestingly, Parag's father and MS Dhoni played together in the Railway's tournaments at Kharagpur and Guwahati many years ago. They even topped their department's racing charts at the Inter-Railways competitions at Nagpur in 2004, just before Dhoni's debut in India.

They also met in the Ranji Trophy, when Dhoni played for Bihar several years ago. During Parag's IPL debut, Dhoni was the captain and goalkeeper of the opposing team.

Riyan Parag got off to a remarkable start to his cricketing career as he made his debut at the competitive level at just 16 years old. He played his first-class match for Assam in the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy on 17 November 2017.

Prior to his first-class debut, he had already made his Twenty20 debut for Assam in the Inter-State Twenty-20 Tournament. 2016-17. on January 29, 2017. His impressive performances for Assam in domestic cricket earned him a place in the U-19 World Cup squad, where he played a crucial role in India's victory.

Rajasthan Royals' connection with Riyan Parag

After failing in a high-scoring match against Gujarat Titans, Riyan Parag was again criticized by fans on social media, with one alleging nepotism in the cricketer's selection.

The fan suggested that Parag's uncle, who is reportedly part of RR's management, might have played a role in his selection.

Another fan linked him to Royal Multisport Pvt Ltd CEO Ranji Barthakur, who he often sees during auctions.

However, there is no evidence to support these accusations of nepotism. However, Parag will need to improve his performance and show consistency, considering the amount of support he is receiving from HR management.

Riyan Parag has not been able to score a half-century in the last ten matches he has played for the team. His highest score in these matches has been 20 runs from 12 balls, which he managed against the Punjab Kings this season.
