In court, the prosecutor objected to granting Bharali advance bail, saying that a person's "social status" should not be considered in the event of such serious charges.

Police said: “We cannot comment on the matter as he is a sub judicial. However, the investigation of the case is ongoing."

According to the District Legal Services Authority, these 'allegations' were extremely serious. According to information, the police have registered the statement of the defendant Bharali. Currently, the victim is in the Children's Home under special police protection.

He then went on to pay off the debt by supporting his father by starting his own business of manufacturing plastic covers for tea plantation workers. But he did not want to pay an exorbitant price for the machine that was needed to make the products (which cost around 6 lakhs rupees at the time). Instead, he decided to build his own machine, which he did, for just Rs 67,000.

Uddhab Kumar Bharali, known for more than 140 innovations in the field of science and engineering in Assam, was honored with the Padma Prize in 2019.
