Who is Ilker Ayci? New Air India CEO & MD

Ground Report | New Delhi:Who is Ilker Ayci; Tata Sons today appointed Ilkar I as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of Air India. Tata Sons said in a statement that IC will assume his responsibility on or before April 1, 2022.

IC will take over as the CEO and MD of Air India on or before April 1, 2022. However, his appointment is subject to regulatory approval, the company said. The decision to appoint the IC was taken after the board meeting on Monday in the presence of Tata Sons Chairman 'Special Invitee' N Chandrasekaran.

Speaking on the occasion, Ilkar IC said, "I am delighted and honored to lead a reputed airline and accept the privilege of joining the Tata Group".

“Working closely with our partners at Air India and the leadership of the Tata Group, we will use Air India's strong heritage to make it one of the best airlines in the world, with a uniquely superior flying experience that adds to the Indian warmth. and reflects hospitality," he added.

Following his appointment, Mr. Ayci said that he was pleased and honored to join the Tata Group and lead the prestigious airline. He further said that he will "use Air India's strong heritage to make it one of the best airlines in the world, with a uniquely superior flying experience that reflects Indian warmth and hospitality".

“The Air India board met this afternoon to consider the candidature of Ilker Ayci. N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, was a special invitee to this board meeting. The board after due deliberations approved the appointment of Ilker Ayci as the CEO & MD of Air India. This appointment is subject to requisite regulatory approvals,” the Tata Group said in a statement.

Who is Ilker Ayci

Aycı was born in 1971 in Istanbul. According to the Tata Group statement, he is a 1994 alumnus of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, Bilkent University. After a research stay on Political Science at the University of Leeds in the UK in 1995, he completed an International Relations Master's program at the University of Marmara in Istanbul in 1997.

"İlker is an aviation industry leader who has led Turkish Airlines to its current success during his tenure. We are delighted to welcome Ilkar to the Tata Group where he will lead Air India into a new era."
