Researcher scholars at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) Bhopal went on an indefinite hunger strike on Monday against the administration's decision to grant scholarship benefits only to third-year PhD fellows.
Two PhD fellows from the Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) Bhopal have accused their guide of trying to publish their research paper under their name.
College harassing us: PhD scholars
In a letter to DCP Bhopal, the PhD scholars wrote: “We (Tanmay Shukla and Mirza Jawad Baig) declare that we have filed a complaint against our PhD supervisor Dr. Ujjwal Kumar Kalla of the Electrical Engineering department for misconduct, use of profanity, exchange of names in documents, attempt to publish articles without giving the actual researchers (Tanmay and Mirza) any authorship to the university administration".
"The university administration is continually harassing us. They are totally biased. We have no one to listen to our problems. We have also submitted all the necessary evidence to the university, so we ask you to kindly do what is necessary in this matter.”
Who is harassing researcher Tanmay Shukla
Tanmay Shukla has alleged harassment at the hands of his supervisor, Dr. Ujjwal Kalla. Tanmay Shukla says "Dr Ujjwal Kalla has repeatedly tried to publish my article under his name and we have continually tried to change our supervisor, but nothing came of it".
Now, Tanmay Shukla, with fellow researcher Mirza Jawad Baig, are staging their protests outside the university campus. Tanmay Shukla and fellow academic Mirza Jawad Baig have alleged that their supervisor, Dr. Kalla, has displayed unprofessional behaviour.
All India Research Scholars Association tweeted "It's a great event for scientific discussion but Indian research scholars are facing many problems & requested to DST Secretary @IndiaDST but didn't get a single response yet, on the other hand #MANIT_Bhopal Ph.D. Students were on strike but no one listened them".
However, Dr. Ujjwal Kalla denied Shukla's claims, citing a personal vendetta. "I have mentored more than 50 students in the past 10 years. How come no one accused me of such behaviour before?" he questioned himself.
