Nine individuals were wounded on Monday evening during a shooting incident at a beachside promenade in Hollywood, Florida.

The incident occurred on Memorial Day, causing panic among the crowd as people sought cover. Several of the injured were taken to a children's hospital, with all victims reported to be in stable condition.

The wounded included six adults and three children, ranging from ages 1 to 65. While one person was in surgery, the others were deemed stable. Law enforcement officials detained one suspect but were actively searching for additional individuals involved.

The shooting transpired shortly before 7 p.m., following a fight that escalated and resulted in gunfire. Police Chief Chris O'Brien mentioned the presence of thousands of people in the area, including numerous responding officers.

O'Brien expressed disappointment that law-abiding citizens enjoying the beach had their day interrupted by criminal activity.

The incident took place along the Hollywood Oceanfront Broadwalk, near various establishments such as a convenience store, Ben & Jerry's ice cream shop, and Subway sandwich store.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and taking cover upon realizing the severity of the situation. Videos posted on social media showed emergency medical teams providing aid to the injured individuals.

As the investigation continues, a significant police presence will be maintained. Authorities have also established a designated area for family members to reunite.

Hollywood Beach, a popular destination, was expected to receive an increased number of visitors due to the Memorial Day holiday.

Hollywood Mayor Josh Levy expressed gratitude to the first responders and medical personnel for their swift response in assisting the victims.

Where did the shooting take place?

A mass shooting occurred on Memorial Day on Hollywood Beach in Florida, resulting in at least nine people being injured. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. m. in the vicinity of the 1200 block of N Broadwalk, near a Ben & Jerry's ice cream parlor and a Subway sandwich shop.

Hollywood Beach is a popular beach destination located approximately 11 miles south of Fort Lauderdale and 20 miles north of Miami. With the Memorial Day holiday, it was anticipated that the beach would attract a larger number of visitors than usual.
