The Meteorological Department reports that cyclonic circulation continues at lower levels over East Assam and adjoining areas. They also state that a fresh Western Disturbance actively acts as a trough in the westerly winds at mid levels.
Rain and snowfall expected
From February 3 to 5, light to moderate rain and snowfall are expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. These areas might receive between 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain.
Snowfall was observed yesterday in Uttarakhand, Himachal, and Jammu and Kashmir. Auli in Chamoli experienced its first snowfall of the season. Snowfall continues in Badrinath, Uttarakhand, and snow cover is visible in Rudraprayag and Tehri.
On February 4, heavy rain and snowfall are likely in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh.
The Meteorological Department has warned of possible hailstorms in many northern states on February 3 and 4. These include parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, North Madhya Pradesh, and Western Rajasthan.
Weather in North-East India
Light to moderate weather is expected in Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan on February 3 and 4. Some areas of Uttar Pradesh may experience similar conditions on February 4 and 5. These regions may receive rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm.
From February 3 to 6, light to moderate rain and snowfall are expected in parts of Arunachal Pradesh. Heavy rain is likely in parts of West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura on February 3.
Yesterday, the minimum temperature in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, plains of Uttarakhand, and many parts of Western Uttar Pradesh was between seven to 10 degrees Celsius. In contrast, some parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and many parts of West Bengal recorded a minimum temperature between 11 to 15 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department has not predicted any major change in the minimum temperatures in North-West and Central India during the next five days. However, the minimum temperature in many parts of Eastern India may drop by two to four degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours.
Yesterday, Amritsar in Punjab recorded a minimum temperature of 4.8 degrees Celsius, while Parmathi in Tamil Nadu recorded a maximum temperature of 36.5 degrees Celsius.
