Weather alert: heavy rainfall expected in parts of India

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in different parts of Kerala and Mahe today, October 14. The IMD expects a cyclonic circulation at low levels around southern Tamil Nadu and a Western Disturbance forming a trough in the westerly winds at mid levels to cause rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in these areas."

In a statement issued by IMD, "We also expect a cyclonic circulation to form over Central Pakistan and adjoining areas within the next 24 hours. We predict similar weather activity to continue over the next few days".

Parts of India are experiencing light to moderate rain

Light to moderate rain and thundershowers, along with lightning is expected in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan from October 14 to 16. We also expect heavy rain in different areas of Kashmir, Gilgit, and Himachal Pradesh on October 16.

The Meteorological Department has also warned of wind speeds reaching 30 to 40 km per hour in isolated areas of Kerala and Mahe, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, and Lakshadweep. These areas are likely to experience rain and thunderstorms along with stormy winds.

Authorities have advised fishermen not to venture into the sea due to expected squall winds with speeds of 40 to 45 km per hour over Lakshadweep, Gulf of Mannar, and Comorin area.

Yesterday, Churu (West Rajasthan) recorded a maximum temperature of 38.3 degrees Celsius, while Meerut (western Uttar Pradesh) recorded a minimum temperature of 17.0 degrees Celsius.

Rain or thundershowers occurred over many areas of Kerala and Mahe, parts of Coastal Karnataka, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on October 13.

Isolated parts of Konkan and Goa, Gujarat, North Interior Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal also experienced rain or thundershowers.
