A stampede-like situation at Kubereshwar Dham in Sehore district, Madhya Pradesh, led to the death of two women and injuries to more than 10 people on Monday. The incident unfolded as massive crowds gathered ahead of the Kanwar Yatra scheduled for August 6.

According to officials, all injured were rushed to the Sehore district hospital. Two of them remain in critical condition, as reported by Patrika News.

The situation turned chaotic when devotees started arriving in large numbers to take part in the yatra from Kubereshwar Dham to Chitavlia Hema village. Despite arrangements made by the administration and event organizers, the crowd far exceeded expectations. This led to overcrowding, panic, and a deadly crush near the main area of the dham.

Witnesses said the crowd had been growing steadily since early morning. As the flow of people intensified, movement became restricted. The pushing and shoving led to some devotees falling, and two women were fatally injured in the pressure of the crowd. More than 10 others sustained injuries in the incident.

This is not the first such tragedy at Kubereshwar Dham. On February 16, 2023, a similar stampede occurred during the Shiv Mahapuran Katha and Rudraksh Mahotsav. In that incident, a 50-year-old woman named Mangala Bai from Nashik died after collapsing in the crowd. Hundreds were hospitalized, and several others were reported missing.

The repeated occurrence of such incidents has raised serious concerns about the preparedness of local authorities. Questions are being asked about the adequacy of safety protocols during large religious events. An official inquiry into the latest tragedy is expected.
