Viral Ranveer Singh ad is spreading lies, know how

Ranveer Singh, Bollywood actor and adult film actor Johnny Sins, recently made headlines for his controversial ad campaign with Bold Care, a company that claims to offer natural and safe solutions for sexual health and wellness problems. In the ad, Ranveer Singh is seen endorsing the product with adult movie star Johnny Sins, and announcing that he is not just the face of the company, but a co-founder of it.

The ad exaggerates the scenes and overdramatizes the background music of saas-bahu serials, lampooning them. It introduces Singh and Sins as brothers, caught an argument typical for a family setting.

The actor playing the role of Sins' wife begins to leave her marital home, with Singh attempting to convince her not to. Singh inquires, "Kya tum yahan pe khush nahi ho?" To which she responds, "Jeth ji, inki daali pe kabhi phool nahi khilta," hinting at the problems they might have in their conjugal life.

Rajat Jadhav, Co-Founder of Bold Care, commented on the campaign's innovative approach by saying: "With #TakeBoldCareofHer, we want to address the stigma around men’s sexual health in India. Our aim has always been to be the category creators in this space and initiate open conversations around sexual health. We're here to help men overcome their sexual health issues by providing science-backed solutions.” adds Jadhav.

However, medical experts and social media users have met the ad with severe criticism and backlash. They pointed out that the product is nothing but a quack and Ranveer Singh is misleading millions of young men who look up to him.

How is this Ad a lie?

The ad is for a capsule that promises men with erectile dysfunction they can rise and shine after ingesting it4. However, there is no proof that such capsular miracles happen. Essentially, the ad is a public disinformation vehicle, and, surprisingly, a man of Ranveer Singh’s intelligence fell for it.

In a video shared by Bold Care’s YouTube channel, Ranveer Singh claimed that there are “90 million plus men in India who face sexual health and wellness problems”. He said that there are “millions of young men who look up to me and many of them are suffering from sexual health and wellness issues”.

Ranveer Singh, Co-Founder of Bold Care, shares: “I’m here with sincere intent to use my influence for raising awareness and making a positive impact. "I am deeply connected to The Bold Care campaign, it's more than just talk; it's a mission for me. I am here to change how we address men's sexual health, to implement tangible solutions and impact millions of lives all across the country."

He shared, “There’s shame, fear, stigma attached to it. Even today and the scary part is that there’s so much misinformation out there.” Ranveer Singh said that most men are “embarrassed” to open up and resort to shady places to find solutions. “You have somebody who is going to some shady clinic to get some kind of hack treatment. are easy ways and scientifically backed ways to find solutions for these issues,” he said.

However, these claims are far from the truth. According to medical experts, there is no evidence that any ingredient in the product is superior to placebo in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (aka his Pappu can’t dance sala) in humans.

Ranveer Singh ad is misleading

The product that Ranveer Singh is promoting contains three main ingredients: Tribulus terrestis (Gokshura), Horny Goat Weed, and Tongkat Ali. However, none of these ingredients have any proven benefits for sexual health and wellness, and some of them can even cause serious side effects.

Tribulus terrestis (Gokshura) is a known hepatotoxic agent, meaning that it can damage the liver. It has no clinically proven benefits in humans, and can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, jaundice, and liver failure. The Journal of Ethnopharmacology published a review article stating that “the use of Tribulus terrestris should be discouraged due to the potential for toxicity and the lack of evidence for efficacy”.

Horny Goat Weed has only cell and animal studies, none in humans. It is also known to interact with several medications, such as blood thinners, antidepressants, and erectile dysfunction drugs. It can cause low blood pressure, dizziness, dry mouth, nosebleed, and irregular heartbeat. A website that provides evidence-based information on supplements stated that “there is insufficient evidence to rate the effectiveness of horny goat weed for any condition” .

Tongkat Ali is another herb that has no human studies to support its effects. It is also associated with low-quality information on the internet, and can cause insomnia, anxiety, irritability, and increased body temperature. The same website that reviewed Horny Goat Weed stated that “unfortunately, there’s scant evidence to support these effects. Furthermore, the internet is full of low-quality information about tongkat ali”.

users lose their minds

Many social media users have expressed their disappointment and anger at Ranveer Singh for his ad. Some of them have tagged him and the company on Twitter, and asked them to stop spreading misinformation and false claims. Some of them have also called for a boycott of the product and the actor.

Since was a cameo that no one saw coming, the internet is in disbelief. The comment section is rife with innuendoes and jokes from celebrity handles. "So good to see one of my all time favourite sexual icons….and also Johny Sins," wrote Tanmay Bhat.

"I really got invested in the storyyy," wrote Yashraj Mukhate.

"Baba u are bold and beautiful for doing this…," said Arjun Kapoor.

"What a cool yet important ad campaign, only RS could pull this off on a subject that is still considered taboo?," said another comment.

"Ranveer Singh please focus on movies. Do good movies. What is all this? First, I thought it was fake. However, it's an authentic ad for a brand called Bold Care," a user said.

Another user said: "Is it for real??? Johnny Sins and Ranveer Singh? What all do we have to see now?"

"Ranveer Singh can't act well even in Bold Care advertisement. Johnny Sins got more range. A very nice and quirky way to promote the product but Ranveer really should go to school," a user noted.

"Few years ago people were hyping below average actor Ranveer Singh. Nowadays Ranbir Kapoor gave 900cr+ WW movie and Ranveer Singh is collaborating with Jhonny sins for money. Work hard in the right direction your work will speak for itself," another user noted.
