No matter how spontaneous you are or how much you feel like being when it comes to accommodation, it's best to do some research and plan your vacation spots in places that feel safe to you. Avoid telling people you've just met where you're staying - if they ask, keep your answer vague. Instead, share your itinerary with friends and family so that someone you trust always knows where you are (or where you're supposed to be) in case you ever need urgent help.
