ADNOC Head and UN COP28 Chief Unveils Plan to Deliver $100 Billion Climate Fund
During the Petersberg Climate Dialogue in Berlin, Sultan Al Jaber, head of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and head of the UN COP28, announced a plan to accelerate global climate finance and finally meet the long-awaited $100 billion commitment to support climate adaptation efforts in developing countries.
Al Jaber called on wealthy nations to follow through on their promise made 14 years ago to donate $100 billion per year starting in 2020 to vulnerable developing nations to help their climate resilience efforts.
J&K yet to witness summer bloom, experts term ongoing erratic weather as ‘true’ form of weather
Soon after the end of March, which ideally marks the end of winters in J&K, people in the region anticipate warmer and sunny days, however, the valley along with the parts of Jammu and Ladakh is witnessing erratic weather conditions over the past two months with mercury showing downward trends.
The weather experts are attributing the current state of weather as a ‘true form’ of weather saying that March, April, and May are the wettest among all the months in J&K and Ladakh.
A senior Scientist at Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and Deputy Director for Srinagar weather station Dr. Mukthar Ahmad told Ground Report that there is nothing uncommon in the ongoing weather patterns, stating that the current weather according to the climatology is the actual form of weather which is supposed to be in March, April, and May in J&K and Ladakh.

ClientEarth Takes Legal Action Against Cargill Over Alleged Failure to Tackle Soy-Driven Deforestation and Human Rights Violations in Brazil
US agricultural giant Cargill is facing legal action from ClientEarth for failing to adequately address its contribution to soy-induced deforestation and human rights violations in Brazil. This is the first time that Cargill, the largest private company in the US with annual revenues of $165 billion, will face legal action in the country for its deforestation footprint in the Amazon rainforest, the Atlantic forest and the savanna of the Closed. ClientEarth alleges that the company is failing to adequately monitor the large quantities of soy it trades and handles, violating its legal due diligence responsibilities.

Climate change concerns on rise in India: 82% of population alarmed
In a recently published report by the Yale Climate Change Communication Program and CVoter International, 82% of the Indian population is alarmed or concerned about global warming.
The remaining 18% are cautious or disconnected from these issues. The report identifies four groups within the Indian population, namely the alarmed, worried, cautious and disengaged, with each group having different responses to climate change.

Extreme weather to become norm in 80+ countries even if warming is limited to 1.5°C
A new study warns that heat waves, droughts, extreme wind events and heavy rains could become frequent in about 20 countries, even if the world manages to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. The study published in the journal Earth System Dynamics, study suggests these impacts could become permanent in 37 countries if warming reaches 2 degrees Celsius and up to 85 countries could be affected if it reaches 3 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial times.

YouTube Profiting from Ads on Climate Disinformation Videos Despite Monetisation Policy Update
A new study by the coalition Climate Action Against Disinformation (CAAD) and the Center to Counter Digital Hate (CCDH) found that YouTube is profiting from ads on climate disinformation videos with tens of millions of views, despite Google's updated monetization policies on climate change. over a year ago.
The study identified 200 YouTube videos containing weather misinformation and misinformation, which collectively serve ads to more than 73 million viewers. This goes against Google's promise not to profit from ads that reject conventional climate science, as they updated their existing rules on climate change ads in October 2021.
