J&K: First major weather activity of season, as weatherman forecasts Rains & Snow 

The western Himalayan region is expected to see widespread light to moderate rain and snowfall over the course of the next few days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday.

In view of the above weather activity, the Meteorological Department has predicted light to moderate rain and snowfall with lightning in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and some areas of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Kupwara 

Following inclement weather, the Kupwara district administration suspended class work up to grade 10 in all public and private schools on Monday. The administration, in a statement, said the decision to close the schools was made in light of the new snowfall.

"In view of fresh snowfall in the higher reaches and inclement weather, the Kupwara District Administration has decided to suspend class work in all schools up to the 10th class today on 11-14-2022," the statement said.

Sonamarg

The mountainous areas of Kashmir received fresh snowfall on Monday and several roads were closed. The Srinagar-Leh Expressway is reportedly closed to traffic after a new spell of snow in Sonmarg.

The world-famous tourist destination Sonmarg has received more than a foot of snow. The blanket of white snow has covered the paradise of India.

Gulmarg 

Mercury plunged over Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday amid showers on the plains and snow on the higher reaches. In the last 24 hours until 8:30 am today, Gulmarg, the world-famous ski resort, received 40 cm of snow, an official with the meteorological department said.

Gurez valley

The Gurez valley in Bandipora also received over a foot of snow, after which the Bandipora-Gurez highway was closed to traffic movement. They said snow ploughs have been put into service to clear internal roads in the Gurez valley.

Lahaul And Spiti of Him

Recent snowfall has hampered the movement of traffic throughout the Lahaul and Spiti district. The regions have witnessed heavy snowfall since Wednesday, causing the blocking of the district's connected roads.

Manali

The Manali-Leh highway through the Atal tunnel was closed beyond the Solang valley towards the Lahaul side due to heavy snowfall near the Atal tunnel. Reports suggest that the road leading to Spiti Valley from the Manali side was blocked due to heavy snowfall at Kunzum Pass on this road.

Drass (Ladakh)

Drass in the union territory of Ladakh also received snowfall. During early Thursday morning, Drass recorded a minimum temperature of -3.2°C, Kargil registered -3.4°C and Leh -4°C.
