In a shocking and disturbing incident, more than 200 cow carcasses were found dumped in a forest near Sillerpur village in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district. The incident which came to light on February 18, 2024, has sent shockwaves through the local community.
Dead cows dumped in forest
According to the media reports, the bodies were recovered just 500-600 meters away from the National Highway on the Salarpur road passing through Karaira tehsil on National Highway 27. The forest area, which is usually a peaceful and serene place, was turned into a horrifying sight by the scattered cow carcasses.
Sarpanch Arvind Lodhi reports that “there are 400 to 500 cow carcasses on the site. The authorities have been notified. There is no clue as to how these bodies got here all of a sudden. The villagers were shocked to witness the bodies of these cows.”
Police station in-charge Suresh Sharma said "when he got the information, he inspected the spot but could not find the reason for the disturbing incident. He said that the police are investigating the matter and trying to find out who is responsible for dumping the dead animals in the forest".
Forest Department silent on incident, people angry
Meanwhile, the Forest Department has maintained silence on this matter and has not issued any statement or taken any action so far. It is suspected that people are dumping dead animals in this area to avoid the hassle of disposing them properly.
Another suspicion is being raised that after deaths in cow sheds built in different areas of the city, the cattle have been dumped here. At present, the people around are avoiding saying anything in this matter.
The incident has sparked outrage and concern among the residents, especially the sarpanch of the local panchayat, who has called for immediate action to uncover the details of this complex situation. He said that the huge number of dead cows is unprecedented and extremely disturbing, and demanded accountability and measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
A police officer close to the case speculated that cold weather conditions may have played a role in the deaths of the cows. However, this theory does not explain the large number of bodies found or the reasons for their disposal in the forest. He said that the investigation is focused on uncovering the truth behind the deaths, including investigating possible negligence or dishonesty.
