How To Choose The Perfect BDS College

There are several factors that must be considered while selecting a college. Some of such factors are as below.

Infrastructure: While selecting a college, attention should be paid to the existing infrastructure of the institute. Here infrastructure refers to the existing buildings, laboratories, libraries, classrooms, equipment, etc. Old and dilapidated infrastructure will hamper learning and dampen the learning mood of the students. It has been observed that having the latest infrastructure makes for smooth learning and students have also been observed to show better results. All the BDS college in Bhopal should have the latest medical equipment and laboratories for students to practice their skills. Information on the chosen college’s infrastructure is available for viewing on the college website.

Ranking and affiliation: Another aspect that should be kept in mind while choosing colleges are the affiliations and rankings. All the institutes in India are ranked annually by several ranking agencies. For example, NIRF’s list by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India has a dedicated Medical list. Similarly, rankings by The Outlook and India Today can also be referred to. When choosing a college, refer to the current year’s ranking. Thereafter, many medical institutes have affiliations with public educational departments or higher education universities. Applicants can search for information on the same from the ‘About Us’ section of the official college website.

Location: While choosing a dental college and hospital for higher studies, one should not miss out on the location. Students often forget that the college would be home to them for the next four years. When looking at how the college is one should also look at its location. How near or far it is from public transport, is it in a rural or dense part of the city and more. Research about the college location to see if there is an opportunity to explore, do community service etc. Introspect and figure out what sort of a campus situation would be ideal. Keep in mind that just because a college is highly ranked and regarded does not mean that its location would be good.

Faculty: While choosing a college, we have no control over the professors who would be teaching us. However, one must look at the teachers and their qualifications. It goes without saying that educated and qualified teachers can make or break the course. Students learn better not just by the syllabus but also get the best tips to succeed in the field. Importantly, the student gets life skills to survive. Especially for a Medical degree like BDS, there must be qualified teachers and professors since the students would become future dentists and help treat diseases. All official college websites have information on their faculty members online including their degrees and certifications.

Accommodation: Many students travel quite a distance to reach their colleges. These out-of-station students need fully furnished hostel facilities on-campus. Usually, colleges have hostels for both genders within the campus or off-campus. For off-campus housing facilities, there should be transport facilities provided by the college for commuting to the college and back. When shortlisting colleges and accommodations, look for what kind of facilities students can get here. This simply means, if there are cafeterias, study rooms, wifi, laundry facility, security, general store to buy daily needed goods etc. Also, take a look at the costs related to the college hostels and if it would be affordable.

Placements: College placements season is a stressful time for students. Companies visit the campus and interview the graduating class to fill up open job positions within their organization. Usually, most colleges, private and public, have a dedicated placement cell that handles all events related to placements. Students also receive help with mock interviews and writing the perfect resume and more. For incoming students, to judge the efficiency of a placement cell, look at the highest, average and lowest package the previous batch earned, number of students sitting for interviews and number of students placed etc. All information related to placements can be viewed from the placements section on the college website.

Extracurriculars: Extracurriculars make for a quintessential student life that also has many benefits career-wise. Each college has its own clubs and extracurricular activities for students concentrating on a course of study, sport, volunteering activities and also religion. One can choose to participate in a particular sport or a debate competition or join a photography club. When applying for higher education, students with a filled up extracurricular column tend to stand out. Colleges with a bigger catalogue of clubs and extracurriculars are ideal. Students would have a greater chance of finding a club that best suits their needs.

Tuition and Costs: Finance is one of the important factors that is kept in mind while students apply for their BDS programme. Medical courses are undoubtedly costly as the student has to complete many practical sessions in laboratories with correct dental equipment. It also involves additional fees like examination fees, sports, infrastructure fees etc. It would be a great loss if a student found the ideal BDS college but could not choose it due to it being expensive. Calculate how much finances can one afford and include housing and food costs. Current course tuition and other costs should be available on all college websites.

Financial Aid: Some BDS colleges in MP provide active financial assistance to their students. Financial aid here refers to scholarships given to students on a merit basis or on a need basis. Look up available private, central and state scholarships that are available in the college. Importantly, look which of the available financial aids is one eligible for. The eligibility criteria for each financial year is different.
