J&K Police arrested a youth and registered a formal case against him for maligning the image of a girl and declaring her as Covid-19 positive on facebook in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district. A 21 year old girl from Sonpah area of Beerwah Budgam had arrived her home from Chandigarh. After developing fever, she visited a Sub-District Hospital where her samples were taken that turn out negative.
A day after the test of the girl was found negative, fake report on facebook was circulated about this girl terming her Covid-19 positive. The girl faced severe mental trauma and her family approached police station Beerwah. A police official said that after verification it came to fore that a youth identified as Khalid Latif spread this rumour on facebook. “An FIR vide number 82/2020 under section 505 B, 188 has been registered in this regard and the accused is lodged in lock-up,” he said and appealed people to stop circulating fake reports on social media.
However Jammu and Kashmir reported 23 new cases of the novel coronavirus pandemic in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of infections to 207. Official sources said that while 25 test reports catome to be positive but included fresh samples of two already-positive cases. They said that among the fresh cases include 18 in Kashmir Valley and remaining in Jammu local news agency GNS reported. Among the 18 cases in Kashmir Valley, sources said 10 are said to from Kupwara and Baramulla districts of north Kashmir.

Regarding fresh cases in Jammu, they said, four are contacts of a 61-year-old woman who died on April 8 and are all residents of Udhampur district, the home town of the deceased woman who was cremated at Jammu yesterday “in accordance with her wish.” With these fresh cases, 207 persons have tested positive for the dreaded disease so far in Jammu and Kashmir.
