In a tragic train accident that took place in the Balasore district of Odisha, a collision between the Bangalore-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express and a freight train killed more than 238 people and left around of 900 wounded.
The incident occurred near the Bahanaga railway station, approximately 250 km south of Kolkata and 170 km north of Bhubaneswar, at around 7 pm on Friday. As rescue operations continue, the names of the dead and injured have yet to be released.
According to SDPO Prasenjit Banerjee, two individuals, identified as Mayuddin Sheikh and Halim Mollah, tragically lost their lives in an incident in Kakdwip, located in the South 24 Parganas district. A total of 32 people in the area sustained injuries as a result of the accident.
As of now, the list of people who lost their lives or suffered injuries in the Odisha train tragedy has not been made public. Authorities are working diligently to collect and verify information about the victims.
The list of casualties in the Odisha train accident is yet to be released to the public, and Ground Report will provide an update on the story soon.

Passenger recounts incident
After the tragic Odisha train accident, Anubhav Das, a passenger aboard the Coromandel Express, shared a heartbreaking account of the incident after being rescued. On Twitter, Das described the devastating scene he witnessed, with the sight of more than 200 lifeless bodies. The magnitude of the tragedy left a lasting impression on him, saying: "Families crushed, bodies without limbs, and a bloodbath on the train tracks. It was a sight I'll never forget."
Providing further details, Das stated that three trains were involved in the accident: the Coromandel Express 12841, the Yesvantpur-Howrah SF Express and a freight train. Based on initial observations, it appeared that the Coromandel Express had derailed and collided with the freight train parked on the loop track.
The impact of the derailment caused the derailed carriages to strike the adjacent Yesvantpur Express on the nearby track. Das revealed that three general carriages of the Yesvantpur Express were badly damaged and derailed. In addition, approximately 13 carriages of the Coromandel Express, including general, sleeper, AC 3-level and AC 2-level carriages, were severely affected and rendered inoperable.
