The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather warnings for several districts across Madhya Pradesh as thunderstorm activity is expected to intensify over the next 24 hours, with gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 50 kmph in some areas.
Current Weather Conditions
Over the past 24 hours, isolated rainfall has been recorded across multiple divisions including Bhopal, Indore, Narmadapuram, Ujjain, Chambal, Rewa, Jabalpur, and Sagar, while scattered showers were observed in the Gwalior division. The remaining divisions remained largely dry.
Temperature variations have been significant across the state. Guna recorded the highest maximum temperature at 40.7°C, while Pachmarhi in Narmadapuram division registered the lowest minimum temperature at 18.2°C. Bhopal experienced a maximum of 38.3°C and minimum of 26.4°C, both below normal levels.
The highest rainfall in the past 24 hours was recorded at Sausar with 25 mm, followed by Khategaon (18 mm) and Chanderi (17 mm). Several other locations including Ichhawar, Bairad, and Raisen received moderate precipitation ranging from 7.8 mm to 16 mm.
Severe Weather Warnings
Strong gusty winds were recorded at multiple locations, with Ashoknagar experiencing the strongest winds at 67 kmph, followed by Shivpuri (56 kmph) and Sehore (52 kmph). Thunderstorm activity with lightning was reported in 21 districts including Morena, Shivpuri, Guna, Indore, and Bhopal.
For the next 24 hours, the IMD predicts:
- Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) at isolated places in Narmadapuram, Betul, Harda, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, Alirajpur, Anuppur, Dindori, Chhindwara, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, and Pandhurna districts.
- Moderate thunderstorm activity with winds (30-40 kmph) expected in Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, Rajgarh, Jhabua, Dhar, Indore, Ratlam, Ujjain, Dewas, Shajapur, Agar, Jabalpur, and Narsinghpur districts.
- Bhopal specific forecast: Partly cloudy skies with chances of thunderstorm activity during late evening and night hours. Maximum temperature expected to reach 39°C with minimum around 26°C.
Temperature Outlook
The IMD forecasts a gradual increase in temperatures by 2-3°C over the next four days across the state, after which no significant changes are expected.
Authorities have issued the following safety guidelines for residents:
- Travel precautions: Avoid unnecessary travel during thunderstorm hours. Drive slowly and maintain firm grip on steering wheels.
- Shelter safety: Stay indoors during storms, avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles.
- Agricultural advisory: Farmers are advised to postpone irrigation, fertilizer, or pesticide applications for the next two days.
- Livestock protection: Keep animals in covered, well-ventilated sheds and ensure availability of clean drinking water.
- Heat protection: Stay hydrated and avoid direct sun exposure between 12 PM and 4 PM.
Monsoon Update
The northern limit of monsoon continues to pass through various coordinates, with the system currently positioned over Mumbai, Ahilyanagar, Adilabad, and other locations. Upper air cyclonic circulations are active over northwest Rajasthan, northwest Uttar Pradesh, and northeast Madhya Pradesh, contributing to the unsettled weather conditions.
Residents are advised to stay updated with official weather bulletins and take necessary precautions during the forecast period. The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely and will issue updates as conditions evolve.
