Heatwave sweeps across India: Heavy rain in North India

Many parts of the country are experiencing extreme heat conditions. Yesterday, various regions in Marathwada, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Central Maharashtra, Odisha, Gujarat, and Vidarbha witnessed maximum temperatures between 42 to 43 degrees Celsius.

Similar high temperatures ranging from 40 to 42 degrees Celsius were recorded in Saurashtra, Kutch, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and the Ganga plains in West Bengal, among others. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal saw temperatures two to three degrees Celsius above normal.

Rayalaseema's Nandyal recorded a scorching 44.7 degrees Celsius. Rohtak in Haryana experienced a relatively cooler minimum temperature of 17.6 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department predicts heatwave conditions in parts of Odisha from April 19 to 21, Bihar from April 20 to 23, and Jharkhand from April 19 to 23. Gangetic plains over West Bengal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu may also face heatwaves on April 19.

Today, severe heatwave conditions are expected in some parts of Odisha and the Ganga plains of West Bengal from April 19 to 21.

Yesterday, Saurashtra, Kutch, Ganga plains in West Bengal, Telangana, and some areas of Odisha experienced heatwave conditions.

Hot and humid weather is anticipated today in Konkan, Goa (April 19), Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana (April 20 to 23), and Kerala, Mahe (April 21 to 23).

Rayalaseema may experience hot nights on April 19.

North India: Western Disturbance Forecast

In North India, a Western Disturbance over North Pakistan may bring changes in the weather of North-West India from April 22. Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh may witness rain, snowfall, lightning, and gusty winds during April 19 to 23.

Uttarakhand may experience cloudy weather and rainfall from April 19 to 24.

Heavy rain and snowfall are expected in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad today, while hailstorms may hit Himachal Pradesh.

Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan may see rain, strong winds, and lightning during April 19 to 22.

Northeast India may experience rain, snowfall, and thunderstorms in parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura from April 19 to 22.

Southern and Central India may witness light rain and thunderstorms in Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Mahe during April 19 to 23.

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Karnataka, North Interior Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, and Lakshadweep may experience cloudy skies and rainfall from April 19 to 20.

Yesterday, snowfall occurred in many areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh. Isolated rain or thundershowers occurred in Assam, Meghalaya, and North Interior Karnataka.

Gadag in North Interior Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pahalgam, Banihal in Muzaffarabad, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and Gangtok each recorded significant rainfall.
