Ladakh stand with Dalai Lama on tongue kissing incident

Hundreds of the Dalai Lama's supporters protest in Ladakh, demanding an apology from the media for "misinterpreting" a video showing the Tibetan spiritual leader "kissing" a child.

The protests, led by Tibetan communities in Ladakh, denounced the "false accusations" made in the "misleading video." At the demonstration, men, women and children dressed in black carried banners with slogans such as "Stop slandering the Dalai Lama" and "We support his Holiness."

BJP MP defends Dalai Lama

Following the circulation of a video purportedly showing Tibetan spiritual leader 14th Dalai Lama in a controversial moment, BJP MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal has condemned the "baseless and malicious" allegations against the Dalai Lama.

In a statement, Namgyal called on his followers to remember the principles of peace and non-violence that are central to the teachings of Buddhism.

He highlighted that the Dalai Lama has contributed to the world beyond his teachings of compassion and empathy, including preserving the cultural heritage of Tibet and promoting environmental sustainability.

Namgyal added that the Dalai Lama has been a strong advocate for human rights and has worked tirelessly to promote peace and non-violence. As the Member of Parliament representing the people of Ladakh, Namgyal expressed his pride in standing in solidarity with the Dalai Lama and gratitude for his continued support and inspiration.

Six Tibetan associations in Gangtok held a "peace solidarity prayer" on the same day to show their support for the Dalai Lama and denounce the misinterpretation of the incident by the media.

Sikkim's Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang also expressed his support for the Dalai Lama in a tweet, stating that the accusations against him are unfounded and discouraging.

Tamang urged everyone to uphold the spiritual leader's values and refrain from spreading false information that could damage his image.

Support for Dalai Lama defended

Dorjee Tseten, a member of the Tibetan parliament-in-exile, has spoken out in support of the Dalai Lama, stating that the incident in question occurred in a public setting and was being broadcast live.

Tseten suggests that certain media outlets and social media figures have used manipulated video to stir up public concern. Tseten emphasizes that those who are familiar with the Dalai Lama's character know about his playful nature.

Furthermore, Tseten highlights the Dalai Lama's commitment to promoting compassion and love for all people, which speaks to his character. Despite this, the Dalai Lama's private office has issued a public statement in response to the situation, which Tseten believes reflects the Dalai Lama's greatness.
