A tragic incident occurred in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, where a 16-year-old boy a self-taught makeup artist and 10th-grade student, known for his content creation on Instagram, took his own life on Wednesday.
The teenager, known as Pranshu and recognized online as @glamupwithpranshu, had amassed over 13,000 followers on Instagram, where he frequently posted Reels of himself showcasing various makeup looks and often wearing attire traditionally associated with women.
He was subjected to widespread bullying on the social media platform due to his videos. The incident took place at his home in the Divine City area, where he was found by his mother. She immediately alerted the local community and rushed him to the hospital, but sadly, he did not survive. At the time of the incident, he was alone at home.
Pranshu share their reality in an authentic manner, but was met with more than 4000 derogatory and homophobic comments on a single Diwali Reel. Despite handling the bullies with dignity and fortitude, the relentless barrage of hate ultimately had a devastating impact on Pranshu’s life.
Pranshu often dressing in sarees and suits, complete with makeup and jewellery. His distinctive content, however, led to him being subjected to offensive comments, trolling, and even threats via direct messages over the past few days. The police are investigating whether this online harassment contributed to his decision to end his life.
Who was Pranshu?
Priyanshu Yadav, known as Pranshu, was a 16-year-old queer teenager from Ujjain district in Madhya Pradesh. He lived with his mother, Preeti, a medical representative, after his parents separated three years ago. Pranshu was a Class 10 student at Ujjain Public School and was alone at home when the tragic incident occurred.
Pranshu was an aspiring social media influencer and a talented makeup artist. He had amassed over 15,000 followers on Instagram, where he posted over 300 pieces of content. His posts predominantly featured him wearing various types of sarees and dresses, complemented by makeup, including nail polish and lipstick. His unique style and creativity made him a promising figure in the online community.
At the time of the incident, Pranshu was alone at home, making it challenging for the authorities to determine the exact cause of his death. However, the local police, under the supervision of SHO A S Gehlot from Nagjhari, have reviewed Pranshu’s Instagram account.
“On November the minor boy was home alone and hung himself using his mother’s dupatta,” a senior officer said, adding that police have seized his mobile phone and the reason behind his suicide death is being established.
“The student’s mobile has been seized and details will be obtained from Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook. There is no solid basis established behind the suicide yet,” Nagjhiri Police Station in-charge, Kamal Singh Gehlot, said.
