Kashmir; Mehbooba Mufti 'will not contest elections till Article 370 restored'

Ground Report | New Delhi: Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti; Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Mehbooba Mufti has said that she will not contest elections till Article 370 is not restored in the state.

Mehbooba Mufti in an interview with NDTV said even if her party wins the elections, she will not become the chief minister. Mehbooba Mufti said she was not surprised when Prime Minister Narendra Modi called a meeting of political leaders of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. "There is a lot of harassment in this area," she said.

Mehbooba said, before the elections in the state, we have to take some confidence-building measures. People's faith is broken.. A lot of suicides are taking place in this area, depression is taking over the people of the area.

Mehbooba Mufti's remarks came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with top political leaders of Jammu and Kashmir at his Delhi residence. This was the first meeting between the Center with political leaders of the region after the abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories in August 2019. She said Mehbooba said, they (central government) have realized that things have not gone according to their plan, and perhaps because of a little sympathy that they had left, they decided to meet us. We went there to honor the Prime Minister's office.

She said, “On August 5, 2019, 370 was removed in an unconstitutional way, it is not acceptable to the people there. We will fight for its restoration in a democratic, constitutional way. We did not get it from Pakistan. Apart from this, we said that you are from China. Talking together where there is no participation of the people. If the people of Jammu and Kashmir get relief then you should talk to Pakistan. Our business is closed. The talk should be done about that.

Mehbooba said, “UAPA is imposed on people, strictness is imposed, it should be closed. Political prisoners who are in jails should be released. Our natural resources should be protected. People of Jammu and Kashmir are very tight. . Even if they breathe hard, they are kept in jail. This should stop.”

She also said that a package should be given to the people of business, tourism, horticulture. On 370, Mehbooba Mufti said, “You removed 370 in an unconstitutional way, it should be restored in a constitutional way.”
