Kanpur businessman Piyush Jain arrested, got crores of rupees in cash

Ground Report | New Delhi: Kanpur businessman Piyush Jain; Kanpur-based perfume trader Piyush Jain has been arrested on charges of tax evasion. Recently, central agencies raided his house and places and recovered notes worth crores of rupees.

Surendra Kumar, the assistant commissioner of Kanpur zone in the GST department, has said that Jain can be taken to Ahmedabad for further action.

Another official told PTI on condition of anonymity that notes worth Rs 275 crore and gold and silver have been recovered in the ongoing raids at Piyush Jain's premises. According to the official, this amount is allegedly related to fake bills of transporter to save GST.

At the same time, news agency ANI has reported, quoting sources, that Rs 187 crore has been recovered in these raids, which is not accounted for. After the raids, Ahmedabad-based Directorate General of GST Intelligence arrested Piyush Jain.

In Kanpur, the office and residence of prominent perfumer Piyush Jain were raided by the GST Directorate General of Intelligence (DGGI) and IT teams, and several million rupees worth of cash and other suspicious documents were recovered. According to police officers accompanying the raid team, cash worth Rs 90 million has been recovered from four offices of Jain, which has a perfume industry in Kannauj.

Who is Piyush Jain

Piyush Jain is originally from Kannauj. He has a house, perfume factory, cold storage and petrol pump in Kannauj.

Apart from this, he also has a house and a showroom in Mumbai. Their companies are also registered in Mumbai.

Piyush Jain has reportedly been associated with the Samajwadi Party and considers himself close to Akhilesh Yadav. He had launched the “Samajwadi Perfume” earlier this year.

Piyush Jain has around 40 companies, he also owns 2 companies in Dubai. His company conducts the perfume manufacturing business in Kannauj and from the showrooms located in Mumbai, his products are sold all over the world. “He is primarily in the Kannauj-based perfume business, while the group owns a showroom in Mumbai from which perfumes are sold across the country and abroad”.
