As per the latest data released by the Center for Monitoring the Indian Economy (CMIE), the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir has the second-highest unemployment rate in the entire country.
Unemployment in the region has witnessed a quantum leap in recent years. The Center for Monitoring the Indian Economy, an economic think tank and business information company, pegged the unemployment rate in Jammu and Kashmir at 32.8 per cent, which is the second highest in the country.
Lakhs of people have lost their jobs because of the uncertainty in the sector. Thousands of daily wage workers, workers, scheme workers and others have not received allowances for several months.
According to the Bharatiya Janata Party ('BJP'), the abrogation of Article 370 had hampered the development of the region. To a large extent, there has been no improvement regarding the employment statistics of Jammu and Kashmir after the repeal of section 370.

Earlier, on September 13, the Mufti accused the BJP of trying to divert people's attention from unemployment and inflation to sensitive communal issues.
“The courts ruled that the 1947 status quo of religious sites must be maintained. The BJP has failed to eliminate unemployment, poverty and inflation. Therefore, they want to distract people's attention. The court ruling supports this BJP narrative,” Mufti told the media.
