IMD warns of heavy rainfall in multiple states

Heavy rain lashed parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region on Saturday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had initially forecast light to moderate rain for Delhi.

However, the Regional Weather Forecast Center (RWFC) in Delhi updated the forecast, indicating that there would be light to moderate-intensity rain in certain areas of Delhi and adjacent regions including Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Faridabad, Rewari, Bawal, Nuh (Haryana), Hapur, Gulaoti, Siyana, Sikandrabad and Bulandshahar.

Elsewhere in the country, IMD issued heavy to very heavy rainfall warnings in the following states and regions: Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Jharkhand and Konkan.

Unfortunately, Maharashtra experienced tragic rain related incidents, with four people losing their lives in the last 24 hours. This brought the total death toll to 101 since June 1. One person lost their lives due to a structure collapse in Kolhapur, while three others were victims of flash floods in Yavatmal, Nagpur and Sindhudurg.

Additionally, 872 families were evacuated to safer locations in seven districts, including 119 families in Gadchiroli, 45 in Thane, 12 in Yavatmal, 16 in Mumbai Suburban, seven in Nagpur, 60 in Chandrapur and a staggering 613 in Ratnagiri. Yavatmal only saw 254 houses damaged.

Looking ahead, the IMD rain forecast for the next few days includes heavy to very heavy rain in Jharkhand and Konkan on Saturday (July 29). Additionally, a flash flood warning has been issued for areas of Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Konkan and Goa.

Also, thunderstorms with lightning are likely to occur in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Authorities and residents of these regions are urged to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period of heavy rain and possible severe weather conditions.
