Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti claimed on Monday that she had been denied a passport. At the same time, he has been described as a 'threat to the country' based on the report of the Criminal Investigative Department (CID) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
In this regard, Mehbooba Mufti has posted a letter from the Regional Passport Officer, Srinagar on her Twitter account. "The passport office refused to issue my passport based on the CID report and said it was a threat to India's security," She said. It is the level of normalcy achieved in Kashmir since August 2019 that a former Chief Minister receiving a passport is a threat to the sovereignty of a powerful nation."

The letter states that the Additional Director General of Police of Jammu and Kashmir, CID, has recommended not issuing passports to Mufti. The Mufti had already moved the High Court for issuing passports as he had applied for the document only last year.
Mehbooba Mufti was placed under detention along with hundreds of political leaders of Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019, when the Centre scrapped the state's special status granted by the Constitution and bifurcated it into two Union Territories.

She was released in October last year. Currently, she is being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering case.
The Enforcement Directorate is currently investigating in connection with a money laundering case involving Mehbooba Mufti. The leader of the People's Democratic Party has alleged that the Modi government is targeting the Mufti because of having a dissenting view.
The Mufti has alleged that the Modi government is misusing agencies like the National Investigation Agency, the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate.

After being questioned for five hours by the ED last week, the Mufti alleged that the current government was accusing anyone who protested, such as treason or money laundering.
She said, 'Disagreement is being criminalized in this country. The ED, CBI and NIA are being misused to silence the opposition.
