The flood damaged many buildings and vehicles. The currents were so strong that they swept away heavy refrigerators.

Last night at 9pm, a distressing incident occurred when dark, muddy water began to pour down from the hill towards the lower part of Bukit Tinggi town. This resulted in shops and houses being submerged and coated in mud.

Multiple videos capturing this terrifying event have been circulating on social media. These videos depict the muddy water sweeping through homes and vehicles, carrying with it debris and furniture.

Bentong’s Member of Parliament, Young Syefura Othman, reported that cleanup operations had commenced once the floodwaters had receded.

Othman visited the site last night and observed that while the water level had decreased, the water from uphill was still flowing swiftly. She conducted an inspection of the affected roads and fallen trees in collaboration with the police and fire and rescue department.

She also issued a warning on Facebook to chalet and homestay operators, including those camping at Janda Baik and Bukit Tinggi, advising them to be cautious given the current weather conditions. Othman urged them to comply with directives from the authorities, including evacuation orders if necessary.

In a related development, the Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry posted on social media that its minister, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, along with Young Syefura, had visited the impacted areas today.

Earlier this year, on February 12, a similar incident occurred when a water column and mud flood hit Kampung Bukit Tinggi and Janda Baik, leading to the evacuation of approximately 300 villagers.
