In a significant move towards sustainable energy, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced that one crore households will receive up to 300 units of electricity each month through rooftop solarisation through the Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana’, scheme.
This initiative is part of the Union Budget for 2024, marking Sitharaman’s sixth time presenting the Budget in Parliament. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during the Union Budget said that Rooftop solarisation to give 1 crore households 300 units of free electricity per month.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently announced the ‘Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana’, a scheme aimed at reducing the electricity bills of the people with low-income and middle class, and making India self-reliant in the energy sector. Under this scheme, one crore households will be equipped with rooftop solar electricity generation systems.
PM Modi expressed his strengthened resolve for every Indian household to have their own solar rooftop system. This decision, taken after his return from Ayodhya, is part of the government’s plan to install rooftop solar systems on 1 crore houses. This initiative will not only decrease the electricity bills of the people with low-income and middle class but also contribute to India’s self-reliance in energy.
In a meeting held at his residence at Lok Kalyan Marg, PM Modi emphasized that every household can harness the power of the sun to reduce their electricity bills and become truly self-reliant in their electricity needs.
The Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana is designed to provide electricity to low and middle-income individuals through solar rooftop installations. It also offers the potential for additional income through surplus electricity generation.
