Ground Report | New Delhi: BJP is celebrating; Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party and said that BJP is celebrating the second anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370 while Kashmir is in mourning. The Modi government at the Center on August 5, 2019, abolished the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the erstwhile state into two union territories.
Speaking to news agency ANI, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti said that today is a day of mourning for Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP government started harassment and vandalism in 2019. It is unfortunate that BJP is celebrating while Kashmir is mourning. We will oppose it. We will force the government to talk to Pakistan to address the external dimensions.

Earlier, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti tweeted and said, "No words or pictures are enough to depict the pain, torment & upheaval inflicted upon J&K on this black day two years ago. When unbridled oppression is unleashed & gross injustice heaped there is no other choice but to resist to exist," Mehbooba Mufti said in a tweet.

Significantly, on August 5, 2019, Article 370 was abolished from Jammu and Kashmir and its special status was also abolished and the erstwhile state was divided into two union territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Mufti and her PDP have been quite vocal in opposing the Centre's move two years ago. Not only this, Mehbooba Mufti was placed under house arrest for a long time.
"Today is a day of mourning for Jammu and Kashmir. The BJP government started oppression, vandalism in 2019. It is unfortunate that the BJP is celebrating while Kashmir is mourning. We will oppose it. We will let the government look at external dimensions. Will force to talk to Pakistan to address," Mehbooba Mufti said.
Khurshid Alam of J&K People's Conference said, "August 5 will always be a negative milestone in the history of J&K. It was a political and psychological blow to the people of J&K."
