Bengaluru city has recorded a maximum temperature of 36.4 degrees Celsius, marking the highest in the last five years. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that this is the fourth highest in the last 15 years and the third highest in the last 10 years.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a heatwave warning for the whole of Karnataka for the next three days. The maximum temperature reached 40.9 and 40.6 degrees Celsius in Kalaburagi and Bagalkot, respectively. The department has issued a yellow alert for Kalaburagi, Raichur, Vijayapura, Yadgir, Bagalkot, and Koppal.

The IMD official said that they have issued a heatwave alert and warning for March 29-31. He also noted that the interior of Karnataka will experience a rise in temperature by 2-3 degrees Celsius and they have issued a heatwave warning for most parts of the state as well.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Friday that the maximum temperature of 36.4 degrees Celsius marked the third hottest day in a decade and the fourth hottest day in the last 15 years. Earlier, the weather agency had forecasted above-normal temperatures in Bengaluru.

The all-time record for Bengaluru is 38.9 degrees Celsius, recorded on March 22, 1931.

In 2022, Bengaluru saw its wettest April in seven years, broke the record for the coolest day of May in 10 years, witnessed the wettest June in a decade, registered the highest daily rainfall in July in 14 years, experienced the wettest September day since 2014 and endured the coldest October day in over a decade. Last year, it also underwent its warmest December in a decade, breaking a number of weather records.
