The state human rights commission Kerala has ordered to investigate and submit a report on the situation where employees commit suicide as a result of pressure from banks. The case was registered by the Judicial Member K.S. Order of Baijunath.
Canara Bank Kerala Circle Chief General Manager (Thiruvananthapuram) should submit a report after conducting a detailed investigation into the circumstances under which the employee had to commit suicide. Canara Bank Regional Manager should also report.
The commission has asked the state level bankers’ committee (SLBC) convener to submit a report within four weeks after examining the pressure on employees of various banks in the state.
Kalpetta’s lawyer, A., has come out against the excessive pressure put on banks by employees. J. Antony had also lodged a complaint with the commission.
The complaint is that the banks are making a profit by putting pressure on the existing employees after making huge cuts. Bank employees were killed three months ago in Guruvayur and eight months ago in Palakkad.
Banks are pressuring their employees to achieve various targets such as investment, lending, insurance, medical insurance, mutual funds and fast tag.
