Ground Report | New Delhi: Places where sun never sets; Can you imagine living in a place where the sun never sets? This is what the days are like in places that are close to the Arctic Circle. Places where they spend long months with days when it doesn't get dark.
In these places, sunlight is maintained for 24 hours. This phenomenon is popularly known as "The Midnight Sun" a natural phenomenon that makes the Sun visible 24 hours a day, on dates close to the summer solstice.
The number of days a year with midnight sun is greater, the closer you are to the pole. Alaska, Canada, Greenland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia and the extreme north of Iceland are the inhabited areas of the planet where you can enjoy this phenomenon. These are some of the cities that you can visit if you want to enjoy this phenomenon.
Hammerfest (Norway)
With a population of 10,417 Hammerfest is one of the northernmost cities in the world and one of the oldest in Northern Norway. It has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, for being part of the Struve Geodetic Arc.
The best time to go: from May 16 to July 27.
2. Iceland
In Iceland during the summer, the nights are clear and white. In the month of June, the sun never sets. The island of Grimsey, in the Arctic Circle, and the city of Akureyrie are some of the ideal places to see the Midnight Sun.
Best time to go: early May to late July
3. Kiruna, Swedish Lapland
Kiruna is the northernmost city in Sweden and has a population of 19,000. Kiruna's Art Nouveau church is considered by Swedes to be the most beautiful piece of architecture in Sweden. In this city, you can also visit or stay at the well-known Ice Hotel which is located about 12 kilometres from Kiruna airport, in a small village called Jukkasjärvi.

4. Nunavut, Canada
Located two degrees above the Arctic Circle, Nunavut is Canada's largest and least populated territory, covering northern Hudson Bay and the islands that extend west of Greenland all the way to the Arctic Circle. Its capital is Iqalauit and it has two main islands which are Baffin and Ellesmere.
During the winter you experience about 30 consecutive days of total darkness, but the good thing is that you get two months of 24/7 sunlight in the summer.
Best time to go: Early April – Early June
5. St. Petersburg, Russia
With a population of over 1 million people, Saint Petersburg is the northernmost city in the world. It is located at such a high latitude that for a month and a half, the sun does not go below the horizon enough for the sky to darken.
Best time to go: From the end of May to the first half of July.
6. Svalbard, Norway
It is the land of polar bears, but not only that, the sun never rests here. It is the closest place to the North Pole that humans can visit. (Places where sun never sets)

7. Yukon, Canada
It is the land of the midnight sun, with glorious skies and endless summer light. All this allows for a virgin nature, with wildflowers and a multitude of varieties of migratory birds.
Best time to go: Early May to late June
8. Ivalo, Finland
It is a small town in Finnish Lapland, full of ski slopes, a busy airport and endless days.
According to data provided by the nation of Finland, 66% of the world's population living within the midnight sun zone resides in Finland, mostly in the area of Finnish Lapland.
Best time to go: May 22 to July 21
9. Qaanaaq, Greenland
With less than 650 inhabitants, this city is located in the far north of Greenland. The midnight sun period lasts two and a half months, during which time people must sleep with black curtains in order to fall asleep. Its winters are long and cold and its nights are so beautiful that there are no human words to describe them.
Best time to go: End of April, until end of August
10. Barrow, Alaska
It is a small town of just over 4,500 people, built below freezing point, resulting in very cold and windy winters.
The sun doesn't set for three months here but makes up for it from early November to early January when the sun doesn't rise, known as the polar night.
Best time to go: Early May to early August
