The Brahmastra trailer was released last month. The star cast includes Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy in key roles. From the trailer, it seemed like the upcoming movie ‘Brahmastra’ is taking a lot from Hindu mythology.
However, the creators seem to have managed to antagonize the community itself, with a scene showing the hero played by Ranbir Kapur in a temple with his shoes on, which is a break from tradition. While the trailer garnered a positive response, within a few hours ‘#BoycottBrahmastra’ started trending on Twitter.

Brahmastra boasts a star-studded ensemble consisting of Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Mouni Roy, and Nagarjuna Akkineni. Several netizens are trending on #BoycottBrahmastra for hurting religious feelings. They pointed to one scene in particular where Ranbir Kapoor could be seen wearing shoes in the temple. Meanwhile, some other fans somehow connected the movie to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
The film shows Ranbir playing the character named after the Indian god Shiva. In the trailer, Ranbir’s character is a free-spirited man before discovering the superpower that he possesses.
In addition to his character, the trailer features the star-studded cast of Alia Bhatt, playing Ranbir’s love interest, Amitabh Bachchan, who will guide Ranbir to find his superpowers. Mouni Roy is the antagonist and Nagarjuna Akkineni plays the role of Anish.
Brahmāstra Trilogy is a 3-part film franchise and the beginning of India’s first original universe, The Astraverse. The film is set to be released on September 9, 2022.
Another reason for boycotting Brahmastra used by netizens is that the film has been endorsed by Karan Johar under his banner Dharma Productions and the filmmaker is under attack for promoting nepotism. Some people even find the movie poster offensive which now says that Ranbir Kapoor’s character Shiva is making fun of Lord Shiva by dressing Trishul in jeans and a shirt. The poster was released in December last year.
