Ground Report | New Delhi: Why Boycott Hyundai is trending; Automobile company Hyundai found itself trending on Twitter this afternoon with the hashtag #BoycottHyundai on a now-deleted tweet by Hyundai Pakistan. The tweet read, "Let us remember the sacrifice of our Kashmiri brothers and stand in support as they continue to fight for freedom. The company had tweeted the same on February 5.

Why Boycott Hyundai is trending

The controversial tweet read, "Let us remember the sacrifice of our Kashmiri brothers and stand in support as they continue the struggle for freedom." The tweet also had the hashtag #KashmirSolidarityDay.

Abhishek Asthana (popularly known as 'Gabbar' on Twitter) questioned the need for brands to interfere in politics. Another user said that brands should stay away from politics. “This is clearly awakened politics. And Hyundai seems to be a gourmet for puns,” wrote the user.

Some users speculated whether the company did this because it sees a higher market potential in Pakistan. “Will be interesting to see how this impacts the Indian market for @HyundaiIndia.

Another user wrote "For Hyundai pakistan if it is freedom struggle going on in kashmir, then Indians will hv to rethink about buying @HyundaiIndia cars. Cant leave this behind."

Are your employees allowed to make such political posts via official handle? If yes, you certainly need some revamping to stay in Indian market. If not, take appropriate action against them and apologise!!!, A user said.
