The government of Uttar Pradesh has responded to allegations against M Khan Hospital, where a two-and-a-half-year-old boy was allegedly given a circumcision instead of the planned surgery.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, who also oversees the health portfolio, tweeted in Hindi, stating that he sent a team from the health department to the hospital for an investigation. If the allegations are verified, appropriate and strict measures will be taken.
"If the complaint is found correct, orders have been given to the CMO, Bareilly, to register an FIR against the guilty doctor and hospital management, to cancel the registration of the said hospital with immediate effect, and to make the complete report of the proceedings available within 24 hours," Mr Pathak had said.
What's the whole matter?
On June 23, a two-and-a-half-year-old boy was mistakenly circumcised at M Khan Hospital on Stadium Road, instead of undergoing tongue surgery. The family immediately filed a complaint with the police about the incident.
Harimohan Yadav and his wife Parul Yadav had brought their three-year-old son to M Khan Hospital on June 22 for tests related to his speech impediment. Without proper verification, the hospital authorities admitted the boy and performed the circumcision procedure.
Harimohan sent a letter of complaint to the Bareilly Senior Superintendent of Police, stating that he resides in the Sanjay Nagar area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Baradari Police Station. When he arrived at the SSP office on June 23, he discovered that his son had already been circumcised instead of the planned tongue surgery.
Meanwhile, doctors told police the boy had a urine-related problem that would be corrected by circumcision surgery, but the parents got it wrong. The doctors added that the boy needed surgery for phimosis, a constriction of the opening of the foreskin, which occurs in the newborn male child.
In response to the allegations, a doctor at the hospital stated: "The woman who works here is a neighbor of the ward attendant. She brought the boy in on Sunday and was aware of the boy's problem. The boy had a urinary problem known as phimosis. Circumcision is the cure for that disease and it has nothing to do with religion.”
SP City Rahul Bhati confirmed that the family had taken his two-and-a-half-year-old son to Dr. M Khan Hospital for tongue surgery, but instead the boy was circumcised. A request regarding the incident was received and a committee was formed to investigate the matter.
Who owns M Khan hospital
Dr. Mohd Javed Khan is the owner of Dr M Khan Hospital located in Bareilly. Following the incident, several Hindu organizations protested against circumcision at the hospital.
CM Brajesh Pathak MP took note of the incident and instructed Dr. Balbir Singh, Bareilly's Chief Medical Officer, to conduct an investigation and take appropriate action.
