Imran Masood, a well-known Muslim face of Congress in western Uttar Pradesh, has joined the Samajwadi Party. On Monday, Imran Masood had announced to leave the Congress and join the Samajwadi Party amid a huge crowd of supporters.

Announcing his decision to quit the Congress, Imran Masood had said, "We have decided to overthrow the fascist government of BJP. This work can be done only through Samajwadi Party and its development agenda. Masood is the only one. I am not a person. I am made up of my supporters. We will ensure that Samajwadi Party wins all seven seats in Saharanpur.

Imran Masood said, "I met Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow. I told him that the government should be formed under your leadership. But I had said that I will make an announcement only after talking to my supporters." Finally, on Monday, Imran Masood announced to join the Samajwadi Party.

The Hindu wrote in its report that Imran Masood had helped the Congress win two seats in Saharanpur in the 2017 UP assembly elections. The number of Muslim voters in Saharanpur is about 42 percent.

Who is Imran Masood

Imran Masood has been an independent MLA from Muzaffarabad. The name of the Muzaffarabad assembly seat was changed in the 2008 delimitation. He is the nephew of Rashid Masood, former Union Minister and veteran leader of the region. Initially, Imran was advocating for an alliance between Congress and Samajwadi Party but later he started saying that only Samajwadi Party can defeat BJP.

A video of Imran Masood's speech against Narendra Modi in the 2014 general election had gone viral. After this speech, Imran Masood came to be seen as a leader of communal polarization. The newspaper has written in its report that joining the Samajwadi Party of Imran Masood will affect not only Saharanpur but also the surrounding districts.

It is being said that Congress MLA from Saharanpur Rural, Masood Akhtar can also join the Samajwadi Party. According to the report of the newspaper, Imran Masood was considered a confidante of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. Observers say that because of his importance in the Congress, he was made the National General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee and was also in charge of the All India Congress Committee, Delhi.

On Monday, He had said that he has great respect for the Congress leadership, but the party has not been able to defeat the BJP in Uttar Pradesh so far. It is being said that the Samajwadi Party which is not even taking the name of Azam Khan in this election, how will it use Imran Masood.

Observers believe that Imran may not contest the election, but his appeal will work for the Samajwadi Party. In the 2017 assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party won only one seat in Saharanpur. Samajwadi Party's fight in this area is not only with BJP but also with Asaduddin Owaisi of AIMIM.
