The daily has named the following 16 departments/ministries and 50 organizations under their administration, which consulted any of the five global consultants: Petroleum and Natural Gas; Rural Development; Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances; Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade; Coal; Electronics and Information Technology; Health and Family Welfare; Skill Development and Entrepreneurship; Defence; Civil Aviation; Public Enterprises; Non-conventional Energy Resources; Power; Road Transport and Highways; Environment, Forest and Climate Change; and Tourism.
The IE reported that PwC secured the highest number of contracts, bagging at least 92 contracts worth over Rs 156 crore between 2017 and 2022. Deloitte secured the second position with 59 assignments worth over Rs 130.13 crore. They did not provide the amounts involved in four of those contracts.
"E&Y secured 87 contracts worth Rs 88.05 crore, KPMG secured 66 contracts worth Rs 68.46 crore, and McKinsey secured three contracts worth Rs 50.09 crore."
"IE accessed records show that between April 2017 and June 2022, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and four of its PSUs awarded contracts worth over Rs 170 crore. Indian Oil Corporation declined to provide the data on the contracts it awarded to the consultancy firms, citing the "trade secret" clause of the RTI Act."
Second on the list is the power sector, with nine organisations under the power ministry, which gave assignments worth Rs 166.41 crore to the "Big Five" consultancies.
