The second phase of voting for the District Development Council elections (DDC Polls) is being held in Jammu and Kashmir.

The fate of a total of 321 candidates is to be decided in the second phase of voting for DDC. 2100 polling booths have been set up for voting.

Voting is going on in 43 constituencies. 25 of which are in Kashmir and 18 in Jammu.

In the second phase, about 7.90 lakh registered voters can reach 2,142 polling stations to exercise their franchise. Of these polling stations, 1,305 are in Kashmir and 837 in Jammu.

Almost all booths in Kashmir are sensitive to security. Additional security has been provided in polling stations in the valley.

Earlier State Election Commissioner further informed that more than 57 lakh voters in J&K are eligible to cast their votes, of which more than 7 lakh 95 thousand voters shall use their right to vote in phase II.

DDC Polls Second Phase

He said that out of 795118 lakh voters more than 388273 are from Jammu division and 406845 are from Kashmir division. Sharma also informed that Kashmir division has 212024 male voters and 194821 female voters where as Jammu division has 204721 male electors and 183553 female electors. 

He also said that 2142 polling stations including 837 in Jammu division and 1305 in Kashmir division, have been setup to conduct the Phase II of the elections.

The SEC said that all the arrangements regarding elections have been completed besides man power, election material and security arrangements have also been put in place. 

 Regarding SOPs related to COVID 19 pandemic, the SEC urged upon the people to strictly follow the prescribed guidelines especially wearing face masks and maintaining social distance during polling process. He also said that sanitizers, thermal scanner and face masks shall also be provided to the voters, in case they forget to carry their own face masks/ sanitizers. 

Earlier on Saturday, November 28, the first phase of voting was held, in which 51.76 percent voting was done.
